aaaand she's home

Well, hello! Remember me? Yes, I'm back. And no, I haven't been in Tokyo all this time (it took me a while to update the "where in the world is LVE?" feature). I fooled you, didn't I?

Actually, I have been in Houston. Today marks the first month that I have been home in the Lone Star State.

It's great to be back. Wonderful to see friends and family. I have kept very busy since getting home. What with hunting for jobs; working in retail to fund said job-hunt; turning 24; hanging out with friends and being outraged by the price of DVDs, bubble tea and food, I've hardly had a chance to unpack and get my bearings.

But I'm not going to lie, La Vache Espagnole has been having something of an existential crisis. This is the main reason it's taken me so long to post. Night after night I wake up in a cold sweat: "What is to become of this blog??" I've touted it as a travel blog of sorts, but my return from the world of the exotic and the new (to my eyes) has put a damper on my inspiration.

No more getting ready for the Olympics(if you hadn't noticed, they're here), no more adventures in teaching classes of 50 Chinese middle schoolers, rants about culture-shock, no more amusing anecdotes of LVE lost in translation. Life in Houston in comparison is so... familiar.

But I can't bear to quit now. So, I'm just going to wait an see what becomes of LVE. I'll post about my life in the US after an incredible year in China. I'm sure it's going to be a lot more interesting than I realize. There is such a thing a reverse culture-shock, you know.

And in any case, it really is good to be back.

Oh, and while you're reading, anyone have a job for a writer/editor? :)
