prepping for ike
Hurricane Ike is getting closer. Houston is bracing itself for the storm. Gas stations are out of gas; grocery stores are full of people scrambling for emergency supplies and on the roads are some fine examples of pretty awful driving.
Some are nervous. Others are being cautious and still others are kicking back and enjoying the long weekend that the weather has offered us. I know I am.
Last night we went to Molina's and sipped on margaritas in the outdoor patio. It was packed. We w
ent to Spec's liquor store afterward, because if we are going to be confined to our house through the weekend, we can't very well do it without wine. Or piñas coladas.
We weren't the only ones with this idea. The place was about to close, but it was far from empty. At the checkout the cashiers were telling everyone that they WOULD be open tomorrow. It seems some people are anxious about gas, some about food, but others have a broader idea of what counts as "emergency supplies".
Of course, we are being cautious as well. Today we spent much of the morning moving our furniture away from the windows,
moving everything mobile from the backyard into the house (don't want the wind to blow any potted-plants through any windows) and bringing sleeping bags out of storage in case we need a safer place to sleep. The dogs are pretty confused.
The storm is supposed to hit late tonight. But until then we are just enjoying spending time at home. The wind has been picking up all day and it's getting exciting. We'll just have to wait and see what happens. I'm sure we'll be fine, but as my friend put it: yIKEs.
